I have achieved something today

I wrote to Shropshire County Council, as highway authority, to complain about the state of a road in Shrewsbury - the road's called Frankwell. It has loads of drain covers, and where Frankwell goes into Frankwell roundabout just over the Welsh Bridge there are a number of drain covers worn smooth and in the wet you may as well ride on sheet ice. Most need replacing but two, in the middle of the road, are particularly bad.

I got a letter back today which reads 'I have arranged for an inspection of all manhole covers and other ironwork within the highway at Frankwell. The two examples in your letter are the responsibility of Severn Trent Water...I have written to them requesting replacement of these manhole covers, together with other identified manholes in the area... Copthorne Road will be undergoing some patching, any manholes requisirng replacement will be attended to... Regarding your concerns about road humps, I have passed your letterto the Senior Traffic Engineer and requeted that he replies to you direct...'

A big up to Shropshire County Council for listening, and for bothering to reply. I'm going to reply to say thank you for taking it seriously and to let them know that I've posted this on here.

Nice one Ed. Thought about writing to Worcestershire County Council regarding similar issues all ove the area but didn't think they would do anything about it, after reading this maybe I will after all.

Let us know how it goes.

I wrote to Surrey council about a deep hole in the road at the edge of a manhole back in August, enough to get your wheel down. They also replied quickly, but have done nothing yet.

I achieved something too... I went out with a pick and made some more potholes.

Good stuff.---Find a hole in the road and get someone to look into it.

Oh yeah, just curious. What about speed humps?

About a year ago I wrote in to Cheshire County Council about a super-slippy, highly polished, very dangerous road. It's a major road, widely used by lorries etc.

A few days later a bloke from the council rang me to let me know that he's sending someone out to test the slipperiness of the road, and that they were in meetings about expanding the road into a dual-carriageway - and he gave me a number to contact him direct if I had any further questions/comments about the road.

Within a week, they put up "slippery road" signs (not a fix, I know - but a step in the right direction) - and last week they started resurfacing the road :D

Unfortunately Staffordshire County Council are not as good - I've written to them to complain about sunken drain covers etc - which they "fix", but in such a way that a week later they're worse than they were before
