TL1000S owners?
 

anything i should be looking out for when viewing a used tl? i know nowt about them, are the engines strong? the one i'm looking at has 11k on the clock and is a 2001 plate.

dunno about the tl1000s but i got an sv1000 for sale :wink:

If it's only got 11k on it then it should be good, the engines are/were AMAZING!

The only problem I had with mine was the light and fairing bracket had snapped so it rattled.

Also, don't forget the Sub frames snapped (as mine did) on the TL.

I would try and take a bike mechanic with you if you can.

Buy Coddy's bike rather than the TL. The TL is like a SV, great bike but flawed and in need of improvement. I've never met a TL owner that didn't feel the need to tweak and change his bike. Kinda like the SV I suppose.
2001 bike made less power than '97 bike, about the same horse power as Coddy's SV1000Z really AFAIK.

TL1000S, My first real bike!!!

water pump seal is a bugger to change and takes about 3-4 hours to do if your hamfisted! they are known to fail. Mine did 3 before I changed the impeller shaft(idle shaft) real strong motors, I sold mine with 33k on the clocks it sufferes a 3rd gear failure at 30k. My light bracket also cracked, other than that make dure if its had the TLR brakes retro fitted that they are in good condition as they are a bitch if not taked care of and as has already been mentioned look at the rear shock, if its oe then I'd change it to anything else as long as that does not include hagon! just as a matter of interest if it has the stock steering damper on it then disconnect it and make sure it slides ok. My R had 14000 miles on it and the damper has air bubbles in it and so is not doing a thing!!

I was just about to say man, Coddy's SV1000 looks incredible and I would SO buy it if I had the money! Do it do it do it and then meet me at Bassetts Pole again and give me a go! :D

Itching 2 Go's post is an excellent starting point as he did plenty of miles on a TLS. Fuel consumption on a '97 TLS is seriously high, a lot have been abused, check head races, chain and tyres.

If the gearbox lets it slip out of 2nd or 3rd under load walk away, as Itching 2 go pointed out check no coolant is leaking from the water pump drain hole on the right hand side of the lump, or that it hasn't been blocked up to mask said leak.

Lovely bike though..... :)
