Do you routinely overtake over solid whites?
Was bimbling back from mums this afternoon (yum yum, lamb dinner) and there's a three mile stretch of A road that's got no overtaking lines all the way pretty much. I usually chill out and go with the flow cos I can't get round (or so I assumed). A couple of power rangers came up behind me on gixxers and just went over the lines to overtake with impunity, do you do that?
I've got to say, it didn't actually look unsafe, they were round the cars very quick with a reasonable level of risk. My car miles outweigh my bike miles by 20 to 1 so I guess I'm 'car programmed'. |
I do cross them from time to time if i can see that the road is clear. Most of the time cars move over and you can overtake without crossing the line.

I never everdo..
and I always get back in before the arrows.! |
I got 3 points, ~£200 in fees/fines and a new A-Hole once for crossing where there was a solid white line ... It's safe to say that now, no, no, I never cross lines!! :x and the occasions where I am in stationary traffic and can see nothing is coming it really really piddles me off!!! but 2 A-Holes are enough for any man!!
I overtake all the time between the car and the white line though (which as mentioned IS legal :) ) ... |
no .but i will go between the car im overtaking and the white line if theres enough room(and nothing coming the other way) ,but generally no
|
I tend not to either, but the daft thing is it's far more dangerous to do a "close overtake"between car and white lines as you have poorer visibility and the car often wanders within it's lane.Much safer to get right over the other side even if it is illegal.

i have done it, but i dont do it much........honest officer :plod:

So I learnt my lesson and now take the approach of a safer opportunity being just around the next corner  |
Routinely, no, but that doesn't mean I won't, I've just found that the ones I encounter on my daily commute are fairly well placed and even in the bits where there are normal lines, it's simply not safe to overtake.

This had been dicussed in some depth before, but to reiterate, I simply overtake, when and where it is safe to do so. I no longer have any faith in government personnel deciding what's safe or unsafe; I rely upon observation, the conditions, and my experience, to make a balanced decision about every single manoeuvre regardless of when or where.
If anyone (after gaining reasonable experience) is totally reliant on road signs to decide how they ride a motorcycle, then they're most likely a danger to themselves and others. Yes this might seem a little controversial, but I truly believe it to be true. . |
