Wonky Exhaust!
 

OK, so I finally bit the bullet and fitted my new exhaust this weekend. Cut the old one off using a dremel (and about a hundred of the little cutting discs they give you...) undid the hanger bolt and went to remove, but as the dremel hadn't cut through the inner pipe properly there was a bit of a bend and snap issue :oops:

Trimmed off the bits that made the sides of the pipe stick out, and fit the new can.

I now find that the new exhaust sticks out quite a bit towards the back of the bike. Rather than running parallel with the back wheel, it sticks out. I know other people have had a problem with this before, but can't find the post.

I've tried gentle persuasion, not so gentle persuasion, brute force and ignorance, and finally resorted to percussive maintenance but to no avail. Any tips?

Change to the right link pipe.
Is it a blue Flame by any chance?

Only thing I can think of is that your link pipe isn't on right. Try twisting it round to see if it fits then.

Yep there are two diffrent link pipes for the pointy SVs, one will make it stick out too much the other will be ok. I beleave that it was Blue Flame that someone was having a hell of a time telling them that the link pipes were diffrent.

Mine's a quill, and I've already tried turning it round for best fit, but my choice seems to be sticks out a lot or hits the pillion footpeg...

Maybe I should call quill?

That's what i had with my BF - called BF and they gave me a K5 link pipe for my lowered K4 - was much better.

Lowered or not does not make a diffrence. I think the main diffrence was from K3 to K4 onwards

BF tried strongly to say that change was from K4 to K5, but you're right (from my experience) my K4 benefited from a shorter link pipe.

Conversation a bit irrelevant as just noticed pigbunk's got a K5 - so make sure you don't have a K3 pipe.

Can't really get my head around how lowering doesn't make a difference but...?

Think about it what bit are you lowering, only the angle of the swing arm changes with the change in length of the dog bones. The engine, frame, exhaust & rear sub frame are still all in the same place in relation to each other, even the swingarm is, just the extended angle is diffrent to norm.

You got any photos? Im struggling to see what the problem is.

Is it

Sticking out to the side (as you look at the back of the bike)
Sticking up in the air (as you look at the side of the bike)
Too long (Extending past the rear wheel too much)
