Looking for the catch. Can't find it. That always bugs me :)

Interesting, their availability checker says ok for me. However when I check directly with BT I get

So, I doubt that they have an LLU provision in my local exchange. So when do they tell me sorry we cannot provide a service

Three year minimum term?

Stu 13-11-06 05:17 PM

TOC - 3 year commitment = at least £600 for a £500 computer compared with free internet from say SKY, Talk Talk etc.

Who knows where they'll be or what they want in 3 years time?

edit: beaten to it as usual

northwind 13-11-06 05:22 PM

Ooh, dug a little deeper and it's a finance deal to pay for all 3 years in one- so your £20 isn't paying for the broadband, it's paying for the finance, and the finance is paying for the broadband. Gives them a lot more power, that. Clever. (if you cancel your direct debit, you're not "not paying a bill", you're "defaulting on a loan", and will get in Bother.)

They have quite a long peak time proviso too, 6-11.

Looks like a cracking deal for folk with no PC. My bruv was talking about getting a computer and broadband last night, this could be ideal. Needs a close look, this is too good to be true!

Rule 1: Never sign up for ADSL with more than 1 months notice.
Rule 2: Never but a PC on credit - it is out of date before its paid off
Rule 3: If it looks too good, it is too good.

Avoid this like the plague folks - ADSL is cut-throat - prices will be down to £10/month with higher bandwidth while you are still stuck with slow speed on a slow PC in 18 months time

Good luck finding an ADSL without a 12 mth minimum period - Talk talk is 18 mths still fairly reasonable to me.

Bit unfair as they do promise to upgrade you to 24 meg when available. (Not that I recommend the deal at all)

PAYG....plusnet. Works great for my mum, hardly uses the net but wants it. 2gb usage a month for only £11 a month, £20 set-up fee and free modem. Can cancel whenever.
