Assessors valuation

Well after my little trip down the road, I have had the valuation of my bike.

It is described as a 2000 S. but registered in 2002 on a V plate. So was it an import I don't know. But has uk clocks headlight etc, the vin plate is missing. whatever it is, there is some dodgy past somewhere. It does HPI ok though.

There is a scrape on the left hand side of the swing arm as if a chain had come off.

No service history and 4 previous owners. Rear tyre is due for a change. So is the chain/sprocket.

There is an ugly yellow CCC can fitted by some previous owner. I bought some lowers from Ebay for £80. It has done 18,000 miles.

I bought it 3 years ago for £2,100.

So the assessors valuation is £2,300.

Obviously less the £175 pounds excess. So I walk away with .... WTF

I now quote from the letter.

Under the terms of the policy you are responsible for the first £175 and this amount has been deducted to give a total of $2025

Ok when I went to school, 2300 - 175 was 2125. And yes he has used dollar currency. Time for a phone call, as I would not want to loose £100 by accepting the offered 2025.

Now checked, there is an error in their maths and I will get the £2125. So I guess I have had 3 years of SV ownership for the cost of £55. Not bad me thinks

If it was me I think I'd be afraid to raise the addition error, in case they realise they're giving you about £500 more than they should be :) GOod result though

Got to say Tim I am with Northy on this. Take the cheque and run fella. I do remember admiring your bike when we first met at the bike shop in Preston prior to our little hoon 2 years ago, was a real nice looker in my eyes. :)

You've done very well, the assessor must have liked you. :)

ebike came back to me after 5 months of "thinking about it" and stuck by their original figure of £2,500 for my SK3, which is fair enough I suppose as she's been beaten up a bit, and it only cost me £80 to get her back on the road. That they took 5 months is #!X#! #*!!#*! !!!!!!

And if your bike had no VIN well good riddance! :)

Great result! You'll just have to find something else to be grumpy about now :D

Well the assessor knew that I had over 20 years history as an assessor. I guess he knew that I had the where for all to dispute his valuation and therefore applied a fair valuation at day 1.

Well my brother has just offered me his k4 gsxr750 for £4,000. He bought it in July for £4,300 and has spent £350 on an alarm and a further £160 on a service. it has 2350 miles on the clock.

Looks like the cheque will not lay in my account for long.

I have to say, that the proof of any insurance company is how well they handle a claim. To date there has only been one slight hiccup and that e-bike seem to be performing quite well.

Hiccup:-

I renewed my insurance 2 hours before I crashed. I crashed on the 22nd with the renewal effective on the 24th.

The 3rd party solicitors have phoned me to say that e-bike have advised them that my policy was only from the 24th. I have explained the effective dates on the policy in place at the time and they have said they will go back to e-bike.
