After Winter Storage - Starting Up Problems

---Shamelessly stolen from another forum---

Have you ever experienced difficulties starting your bike for the first time after the winter hibernation period (the bike's that is, not yours!)........thought so!
One of the biggest reasons for this is the crap quality of unleaded fuel. Gone are the days of good old leaded fuel, instead we get fuel that "goes-off" after a short period of time, sometimes as short as 3 months!
Oxidisation of the fuel occurs and varnish gums up carburettors and injectors.

Anyway, Iv'e discovered a product which could be a solution (if you'll pardon the pun) It is designed to be used in conjunction with 4-stroke or 2-stroke engines fitted to Lawnmower's, Jetski's, Outboard motor's, chainsaw's, MOTORCYCLE's etc.

What it says:
Promotes Quick starting
Improves engine performance
Reduces gum and varnish build-up
Stabilises petrol up to 24 months
Keeps carburettor and fuel systems clean

It is manufactured by Briggs & Stratton and one small sachet is enough to treat 11.35 litres (2.5 gallons). No damage will occur if more than the recommended amount is added.

The directions are to squeeze the contents of the sachet into the fuel tank containing unleaded petrol.
Operate the engine for several minutes to ensure complete fuel system protection.
I personally would also recommend filling your tank to the brim after using the additive to reduce air space above the fuel level, this will minimise condensation forming on the inside of the tank which will reach the bottom of the tank and cause rusting.

The sachets cost approx £1.20p each, and can be obtained from local garden or lawn centres (if you can find this stuff for sale on the net please post it up because I have searched untill I am pulling my hair out  )
A mate of mine has used this stuff for years and swears by it, so I bought 6 sachets for £7.08p and I'll be trying it out this winter in both bikes.

Hope this information will be of some use!

Yeah I second the request for anyone that finds it online to post the link.

Finds it in a legit shop that is, i.e. not ebay as I have never used it and never will!

Surprised bike dealers don't sell stuff.

I can supply this (the Briggs and Stratton stuff) in larger containers for anyone interested. Will check tomorrow on the size, been selling it for years not sure how much is in the bottle (at a guess probably 250ml or so)

Also the sachets are available.

(And I dont charge £4.95 carriage on the sachets!)

PM me for details
(We run a proper online webstore however the fuel additive isn't on it at present)

Pete
