Baph down :(

Opps. :(

My own stupid fault. Battery was flat again as some will know I've had an issue with this recently. This time I managed to jump start it luckily. However, I didn't have my gloves on, so doubled back to get them.

This is when I was pi$$ed off because of now running late. First mistake. So I went round a little horse-shoe shape road near the house, opened it up, braked for the U, and here comes the second
mistake. Front brake only, cold tyres, cold wet tarmac. Opps :(

Dropped it at around 20mph. My left hand is pretty messed up, and my left knee is worse. Maybe I can join the wonkey knee gang? Where do I put the application into? :D As for the bike, it can be repaired. Left front inticator has the back come off (I've recovered the back part of it too). Gear lever is snapped, so I'm undecided if I'm going to get a new/2nd hand or just drill it. Left bar end bolt is bent, and the weight itself is a little chewed up.

There's also a little scratching on the fairing, but you really wouldn't see it if you didn't know it was there.

So all in all, I was lucky.

In hindsight, when the battery is dead. Take the car ;) I know I should never ride in the state of mind I was in, and the big guy upstairs just gave me a reminder.

Anyway, the hole in my knee is hurting, so time for some more antiseptic spray, and maybe a hospital visit if I can't put weight on it in a few days.

Hey ho, live & learn huh? Where's that statistic that most accidents happen within a mile from home?

:( . You going to get some crash bungs now? :?

andyb 20-11-06 09:30 AM

Really sorry to hear it Baph, hope you mend quickly!

:( I recopngnise that feeling of things snowballing... Hope you heal up straight!

Cheers folks.

Just got the cost of repairs (inc service @ 7500 miles). £260. Not brilliant, but not too bad.

Expect to see a front left indicator (minus housing), and a ground bar end weight in the For Sale section soon. Ideal for racers and I remember seeing someone that wanted the inner workings of an indicator.

I think I've found out how much I'm valued at work though through this. I called work & said that once everything was sorted I would pop up to the hospital to make sure there wasn't an more serious damage to me (still can't put weight on my leg). Just had a call to the house phone, was the company Chairman "Hi Dave, I'm at Glan-Clwydd, I heard you've had an off & come to see if you're OK, you're not here, what's going on?" So after the explaination of what happened at that I haven't actually been to the hospital, and that Glan Clwydd isn't the nearest one so I wouldn't be going there anyway, he wished me well etc etc. How's that? I have an off, and the company chairman jumps in his car & comes to see me.

Crash bungs are in order I think. Shame they weren't on already, but doubt they'd of saved the bar end weight & indicator anyway.

sorry to hear about your news Baph :( get well soon.

unlucky mate! but if you get out of it unscathed it can only be a valuble lesson :D in hindsight do you think you were going in to the u turn to quickly? or was it just really slippery roads :?

Luckypants 20-11-06 10:51 AM

Sorry to hear that Baph. Do go to the hospital, as there could be bad stuff happening in your knee or hand that you do not realise yet. The sooner it is looked at, the better it will mend.

Take care of you first, the bike can be fixed any time.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Baph 20-11-06 11:03 AM

Gettin2dizzy, I reckon I was probably going too fast. Was pretty peeved that I was running so late anyway (stupid I know) & did yank the throttle hard. Also the mistake of only using the front brake AS I turned

Mike, ride out to get confidence back (my excuse & I'm sticking to it ;) )

timwilky 20-11-06 11:13 AM

Doh.

What can I say about going down. Pride takes a battering. but at least you have walked/limped away. The bike will mend so don't worry it is only money
