Pointless Bike Chains

just goes to show if a theif wants your bike he will get it one way or another.

I guess it boils down to a deterrant. But if a thief really wants your bike, they will get it.

Not everyone is equipped with a heavy chap with somew long handle bolt croppers.

i would like to think that that kind of activity in a bike bay in a busy street would attract some attention?

I bet no one would do anything if they saw that going on.

Silly question, does any one know what damage the chains do to the bolt cutters? Are they completely fine after?
They were putting enormous amounts pressure on a tiny surface area. If the bolt cutters werent being damaged at all, why dont they just make chains out of bolt cutter material?

TBH, if you turned up at a bike bay (No such thing round here so I am surmising). Cursing about lost keys with a big pair of bolt cutters, must passers buy wouldn't question it.

I guess most riders would also simple note that they need to get a copy made of their keys, and thank god it wasn't them that had lost their keys.

From what I've experienced with numerous sets of bolt croppers, if they are the propper stuff i.e. the high tensile cutting jobs with big everything (including the price), the worst that happens is that they go slightly out of adjustment. Bolt Croppers actually work by pushing two ends of a bolt / chain link apart rather than actually cutting as such. No material is actually removed like using a saw or grinder.

My guess is that if they made chains using that stuff, they'd be far too heavy and far too expensive. My jumbo croppers at work were nearly £300 and that's before the VAT! Don't reckon there'd be many chains sold.

No ones mentioned the sponsor of the film www.almax.co.uk, their chains are serious strong and I don't think one has ever been cut 'in combat'. They are claimed un cropable by any bolt cutters or even portable hydraulic ones. Very heavy though.

£300 on bolt cutters isn't a big layout when it gets you £1000's in ebay parts. Even a scum sucking chav can work that out.

i think if i saw somone doing it i would question them ?to try to find out if it was there bike. but i guess most peeps(non bikers) would not :(
