Frame coating worn

Hey y'all. I've got a k5 and I've noticed that the black coating on the frame is getting worn down to bare metal where the backs of my boots rub against it. I know the SV is a budget bike with a budget finish, but surely that can't be right on a bike that's only 16months old?

What do you guys reckon? Is it worth taking to a dealer to see if it's covered by the warranty? Or is this just wear and tear. I use the bike about 2 hours per day on my commute, plus more when the weather's good, :D so I guess it gets quite heavy use.

I doubt if the dealer will entertain a warranty claim. Try it tho, but maybe some clear adhesive pieces for the high wear area would make it last a bit longer?

Good idea. Cheers Razor.

Yeah, the coating is crap :( A mate of mine's went down to the metal very fast.

Yeah, well that's probably a pointy problem. Curvies on the other hand are just too smooth to groove - in that particular way..

Seriously, it does seem 'not fit for purpose' if the paintwork cannot tolerate what seems to be quite normal use..

Sidi boots by any chance? My vertebraes seem to be made out of 800 grit.

Yep. Same here. K5 frame coating worn at heels of boots. I popped on some clear blobs to stop it getting any worse. Oxtars boots at this end.

"They all do that mate."

I'm wearing away the paint on the heel guards, I haven't noticed wearing away the frame paint. might have to take a closer look at my bike now.
