Farewell. . . & Hello !! ** Updated with Pics**
 

Well, the beginning of last week saw me saying farewell to my beloved VFR; after 5 years of faithful service (excluding the recent rec/reg problem) it was time for us to part company :cry:

But, the flip side of this sad tale is that it enabled me to say hello to my lovely new BMW 1200 GS - picked it up Fri afternoon (in the rain) & have managed to put 300 wonderful grin filled miles on it thus far :D

This means it is now fully run in (200 miles at <4000 revs) & I can now ride it properly 8)

I'll get some pics in the next day or so - have been too busy riding to take any yet !! :D

No thanks - but since you're offering, a nice set of BMW luggage or an Akropovic can / system is on my list !! :P

It is a nice bike, shame about the height as i could only just get my feet down on the ground and that engine torque at a stanstill makes the bike fall to the right.

Why get rid of possibly the best bike that's ever been built for a tractor?

Out of interest, how much did you get for your Viffer?

(1) I quite agree that the VFR is probably the best bike that's ever been built, but -

(a) The riding position was starting to get uncomfortable when riding for more than an hour or so
(b) I test rode the GS earlier in the year & was really impressed with it
(c) I fancied a change
(d) I can only assume from the 'tractor' comment that you have never ridden one of these bikes or even read any of the write-ups in the sportsbike biased magazines ? Get hold of some back issues & read, then book yourself a test ride - tractor's they certainly ain't !! :twisted:

(2) £2500 - 'Y' plate, 25k on the clock (only mods were a Micron race can & a hacksaw taken to no. plate holder).
Not as much as I'd have liked or could have got if I'd (a) sold it privately or (b) waited until better weather next spring - but then the price of the GS would have gone up more than I'd have gained on the VFR.

A very good bike, I really like em and pondered one for a while (ended up with something just a tad different though :D )

They aren't too tall either once you get on em, well not for me at a shortish 5'10'' and the Doc (Rich) has one who is many stones lighter than me gets on very well with it.

I went a similar way by buying a FJR1300.

Good choice.

EDIT: I should also state, i'm only 28 and not a grandpa. :lol:
