I know divers use them, but in biking terms??

if you look at a standard air filter for the curvy , you will se a "snorkel" around the intake hole.

Thats why i dont know what it is, as i have a k&n air filter which has a big hole in the middle straight to the filter

Some folks still refer to the covered-top-with-a-hole on the K&N as a snorkel, too. Plus, it means somethign else again on injected SVs. This is what happens when you let americans name things :)
