IT help for the technologically retarded.

Is there any anti-spyware download that folks would recommended?
Preferably free.

Long story, but end result being that my housemate's computer has been infected with summat (running slow, excessive popups etc) during a short period spend without it's anti-virus software running.

It's running now and I've scanned everything n stuff and it says the computer is fine - but it's not.

Um, help please - and bear in mind that I hit things with hammers to fix them. :?

K, Try this. Made by the nice folks over at AVG. Initially they made a virus scanner, but then they decided that Anti-spyware was a good market to be in.

Freeware :)

My one kills the forum - no postimage pictures are seen, emoticons are not animated and can't access MSN. Actually that sounds more like a firewall, can't remember the name right now but I don't recommend it. :D HTH

Anyway, I'll be asking for a replacement when I look up the name of it.

Adaware's pretty effective, it seems. And free :)

I use Webroot Spy Sweeper... after the trial I just bought it cuz I think it's damned good for £25.

For a firewall you could try Zone Alarm free :

HTH also.

Adaware does some, Spybot search and destroy does some, M$'s Malicious Software Removal Tool does them and more :)

My standard weapons for spyware are spybot search and destroy and adaware se

Both are free and good

When I had a serious spyware problem the only tool I found that worked was sysinternals rootkit revealer, again is free and so good that microsoft aquired the company see here but it is very geeky and use as last resort.

Spybot S&D and Adaware are plenty good enough for me... I use those when fixing my friends computers after they have stumbled onto a porn site and 'accidentaly' downloaded something they shouldnt have...
