Mobile speed cameras

There's probably a logic answer to this one.

Near where i live there's a stretch of road that is nearly all national speed limit except for a half mile stretch that has a 40 mph limit and at least once a month there is a mobile speed camera unit there ( white van ! ). As the camera takes a picture of oncoming vehicles, am i right in thinking it can't catch bikes as it can only pick up cars/vehicles which obviously have the reg plate on the front as well as the back.

Yes, but if you **** them off too much they'll make it worth their while to catch you as well whatever it takes.

I heard the guy inside will just swivel round and write down your numberplate as you pass.

Seems reasonable, Thats why I always try to pass legal speed

Except while he is sleeping / reading the sun / surfing the net / other time wasting.

I believe the correct response for this sort of camera (should they clock you) is to emergency stop in the outside lane, forcing other vehicles to undertake you. Then when a lorry or bus comes up the inside, ride off alongside their cab and you (and your plate) will be hidden from their view. :-dd

Be aware that they may take a dim view of this and if they're proper police, rather than tax collectors, radio for their mates to give chase.

Not that I've ever engaged in such criminal activity.

LOL :)

Yes they will if they are on the ball take your plate as you pass in the old fashion pen and paper style though as said if they can't see your plate they can't write it down :)

It sounds like from their choice of spot they are oppoturnist tax collectors and won't have backup waiting but sometimes in bike heavy areas or hot spots they will have a "Friend" parked further up the road.
