Quick Q regarding salt
 

So after riding yesterday in the rain I gave the bike a good hose down with fresh water. Then I just left it to dry. Thought getting the salt and some of the crap off would be good. Good idea or bad idea?

as long as its rinced off good it will be a good idea!
salt just helps along the corrosion!

yep salt eats metal.

....and then a quick wipe over the prone metal bits - forks, swingarm etc with WD40 and a rag will do wonders....

i do a spot of sea fishing while I'm on the south coast on holiday, you should see the state of the reels and other bits of tackle if you dont wash the salt water off. :shock: its furrier than our cat!

Make sure it is a good rinse off … else you will just have a saline solution left … if you get that then you might as well have just dunked it in the sea to wash it off!! :D

WD40 everything* is always a good idea after a wash off (and dry) 8)

A good blast with a low preassure hose or bucket n sponge will help no end. It takes very little time for the salt to eat into the cycle parts. You can clean the fur off with autosol but you'll not get the shiny finish that was there initially (that dulls in time anyway). The wash saves a lot of extra effort later on. WD40 is good for getting rid of any extra water.

Don't forget to clean and lube the chain.

Very true though. I'm not one for the "Leave the crud on to protect from other crud" brigade. Regular washing doesn't hurt the bike and road salt is just about the worst thing going for bike destruction. Especially with Suzuki's.

I too agree that its a good idea to clean all the crud off after a ride. However, every time I give my bike a good going over with a bucket of water & sponge, my alarm decides to start going off at at around 1 o'clock in the mornin. So i've just ordered som ACF-50 spray, gonna give a really good clean, spray it with a coating of the ACF-50 & then wait 'til spring to give it another good clean.

I am using the clean it , cover in ACF50 then do bugger all apart from ride it till March / April then give it a clean approach.

Having to clean the bike after every ride in the Winter would be a big no no , as use every day and I am a lazy git .
