recommended jobs to do whilst my engine is out

Hi i've dropped my engine and got my bike in a billion pieces in order to get some powder coating done. Whilst i'm waiting on getting the parts coated i have my engine sitting nice and accessable on the floor and i was thinking how much easier it will be to do work on it with it removed.

My bike has covered 13000 miles so i am going to check the valve clearances

i'm going to change the plugs (oil and filter when its back in)

fit a PAIR removal kit

give it a good clean

any thing else worth while doing whilst its out?

Might be worth just whipping the cam chain tensioners out while the engine is out of the frame, just to make sure they're working fine as my bike started rattling not too many miles after what yours has done. They're a pain in the butt to do with the engine in the frame.

Ian's is a pointy, can't remember what year but either way it'll have better tensioners than the curvy.

Want a set of carbed model intake cams? Nice quick drop in while it's out...

i'll take a look at the cam chain tensioners and give them a good seeing too.

What advantages do i get from the cam swap northy. i always thought it was just the curvy models that gained by fitting pointy cams?

When I did mine, I put injected intakes in the intake, but put the old intakes over to the exhaust- much of the benefit is from the exhaust side really but it makes no sense to buy new carbed intakes when the injected ones are slightly better. You already have the intakes o'course, so a set of used intakes from a carbed bike into your exhaust would give you the same cam setup as me...

How much benefit... Dunno :) It's not such a popular swap. Less than I got obviously, because you start out a little better. But I reckon you'd still get most of the longer peak, and a bit of power from about 5 up. Not going to guess how much, but not a huge amount, only guess I'll make is "under 5".

You could ask Carsick how much he got out of his dual-carb-cam setup, I think it was him I sold my other set to :) Someone else has SVRash's old intakes in their exhaust side too, pretty sure it's TSM.

You've got standard compression, timing etc I'm assuming, all bets are off if you don't- high comp does weird things to valve timings.

yer its totally stock internally.

I'll bang em in then if the price is right.
