Get on a train to victoria. Then walk around the 20 or so shops within a mile. Specifically go for the dodgy ones as they have better rates. There's one to the right of the station as you exit that I have been consistently impressed with. Banks, AMEX etc are ****e.
|
My bank gives me commission free currency exchanges on any amount I'd be stupid enough to ask for. As for the actual rates offered, I'm not sure, but commission free is better than a poke in the eye with a rusty spoon!
x-rates.com says that you should expect around 1.48487 EUR to the punt, erm, I mean pound! |
And try the post office, they are commission free and rates seem competitive.

But do weigh up how much time and effort it takes to save a pound of two.

You might just find that withdrawing cash from an ATM is the easiest option. You're less likely to convert too much and I've never had a problem getting local currency from ATMs.
