Where could i put a temp sensor?

I wanna put a temp sensor on the bike to give me some idea of engine temp

Would it be best to measure water or oil temp and where could i put it?

The curvy models don't have one?!

Pointies measure coolant temp but where from I don't know. Maybe have a look at the service manuals or parts fiche.

The pointies have the temperature sensor on the 'stat housing, same place as the curvies, but of course the curvies only have an over-temp indicator light not a gauge - 'cos you don't need one.

As for your original question, coolant temperature on the engine side of the thermostat is what you want.

As for why, I'm tending with Sid!

The fan comes on if it gets a bit on the warm side, and the overtemp light comes on if it gets very hot. Otherwise after a couple of miles of gentle riding it'll be more or less up to temp.

If you really want one, these are a nice solution

Look at the pdf spec sheet for the tech info.

All you need is an appropriate (calibration/sensitivity) NTC thermistor screwed into the housing and some wiring, it'll show the sensor temp, the temp of the meter (i.e. air temp on a bike), or I think it'll alternate between the 2 if the connections/jumpers are selected. I'm pretty sure I came across a suitable small NTC thermistor somewhere, M4 thread or similar, which would probably do. I'm not sure what spec the sensors as used in a pointy would be.

Q: Why?
A; i've still got my 5 function gauge which has two temp sensors, one for internal and one for external temp, so i thought the one on the wire could be attached to the engine somewere and the other is on the gauge anyway, giving me the outside air temp

For those who want to know which gauge it is:-

just seems like more distractions! I like to keep the display as simple as possible.
