Well now i can say i have done it! 18 years old, boy racer stamp on my head, passed my test 2 months ago, dropped her Wednesday night at 18.30 :cry: Following some old bloke, he was doing 20 in a 30 and was starting to get on my tits(I know composure is the key to a good rider) and i decided i would look left and get round him on the left hand side aka undertake! As i have turned back to look and see if I can make it past before the next junction, the geezer has decided that he's turning right to a side road at the last minute and stops dead indicator on very late with me still doing 30 mph and approaching his rear bumper pretty quickly. Natural reaction front brake, not the best idea and looking back i think i could've maneuvered around him :( So me and my pillion skittle down the road towards his car. The next thing i remember is turning over looking across the floor for my pillion who has managed to get up and off the road quickly enough. There's me with the tank crushing my ankle, i get it off and out the road. Go through all the rubbish and details with the other driver while we are doing this i look around his car for damage and guess what jack shizzle wrong with his car :evil: :roll: So there i am scrapes and cracks to the fairing in need of a new bracket for the gear shifter and a new indicator and some confidence to ride again, there he is complaining of blooming whiplash where there was clearly no damage to his car. But there was a good thing that came out of it all, I have the experience been and done now and also the emergency services were very helpful.

Anyone had damage like this before if so what charges am i looking at?

P.S. I know u've heard it all before but i still believe that it still wasn't my fault because he stopped too early and didn't give enough notice of indication, i know if i was to appeal it being my fault my age and experience would come into play.

don't think age and experience will matter, its the fact you tried to undertake him, thats what'll get ya.

as long as you learn from your mistake and no harm came to you or anybody else is the main thing...

Sorry to hear about this.

Unfortunately, you hit the vehicle in front of you, so the liability is automatically with you. However, this may be weighted & not 100% liability. I reckon you'll be lucky to get a 50/50.

It's also possible to get whiplash without damage to the vehicle, so there is a chance, but then again, he's probably playing on it for the PI claim, a reflection of the way the world is at the moment.

Lucky you 2 weren't damaged. Did your bike actually hit his car? Maybe that he saw your bike in his mirror, panicked and stopped dead - I've known it happen :roll:

It happens mate. I dropped my SV 3 weeks after buying it. It wasn't the end of the world. However mine was solely my fault as I screwed up in the wet on a tight right hander. A new gear lever is around £40. The indicators can be changed cheaply and it depends how badly the fairing is damaged and if it's fully faired or half faired.

Also, don't undertake :P

Baph is right, you hit him so it's your fault. Drivers like that really do vex me and they always come out in force on Sundays when i'm trying to practice the bends quicker going to Boxhill. How the bloody hell am i supposed to practice whilst doing minus 20 MPH?!!!! Rant over....please carry on
Glad you're ok though! You need to have an 'off' early on in biking life to give you more respect for the road. There are some riders who have never come off and ride like hooligans cos they think they're invincible. Not true. They'll just come off harder and faster when they eventually do unfortunately :cry: . (Not aimed at anyone in particular btw)

probably he will make an insurance claim, which will put your premium up renewall, but thats about it.

Don't worry about it fella, when my examiner said to me '2 of 3 riders my age have an accident in the first 2 years - be careful!' i though - yeah whatever...

...4 days later i was riding too close to a car in front, it stopped, i didnt!

Your probably fuming right now but don't let it pi*s you off, it's made me a better rider and alot more alert; on the plus side you've probably learnt a valuable lesson.

The important thing is you and your pillion are ok.
