Sprockets and Chains
Hey! Firstly let me start by introducing myself, my name is Sam, i am from Derby and i own a Suzuki SV1000 fully faired (K4) on an 06 plate.
On my SV1000 i wish to change the rear sprocket for better acceleration. Currently the rear sprocket is sized at a 40. I wish to change it to 43. My question is, in doing so, will i have to replace the chain as well? Also, has anyone else changed the sprockets sizes on there bikes for better acceleration and what are your opinions on it all? Thanks Sam |
Yes you will need a longer chain at least 2 more links!
Oh and welcome to the forum 8) |
you could drop the front sprocket by 1 tooth. this would be the equilivant of going 3 teeth up on the rear. by doing this you will only need to adjust the chain.

Dunno about the sprockets but welcome to the forum. especially the MIGTS
Are ye awright me duck :P |
Morning Sam.
Welcome to the madhouse :) It really depends on on how many miles your bike has done, normally one would replace the sprockets and chain as a set. What many of my customers have done to see if they like lower gearing is to have a smaller front sprocket fitted, and then if they like it go for the set, as it's a lot cheaper than paying out for a set and wishing they'd kept it standard. Cheers. |
