Starting problmes....sort of

Hi guys, haven't been around for a while as I've been so busy the last few months. Still haven't got around to doing the GSXR front end yet.

Anyways on with the problem... went to start the bike the other day after it being sat for about three weeks, charged the battery the day before. The bike started fine but after nearly five minutes of idleing it stalled, so I restarted and it did exactly the same thing. I took it out for a blast and all seemed fine but I'm wondering why it should stall after ideling for that length of time???

On a different subject, got most of the parts for my GSXR front end except the brake lines, going for the two line set-up but should I order an SVS set of a GSXR set? (I have SRAD 705 yokes and 2002 GSXR forks.) I've also got some speed bleed nipples, when bleeding the brakes do I just keep the reservoir full with fluid open the nipple and keep pumping the lever as they have a one way valve?

Cheers,
Andy

It might be that the fuel has gone off, unleaded doesnt keep well. Try a fresh tank of fuel and see if it runs any better then...

Quite a short time for it to have gone off, but it could be that. Or water in the tank... It's run for long enough that draining the bowls probably won't help unless there's actualyl water in them, which tbh I doubt.

Fuel going off isn't as harsh as people make it out to be.

I put a new battery in a car that had been standing for two years, it started and run (a little rough but it worked).

Seeing as before i stopped using it the fuel had been in it a few months we are looking at fuel thats about 26 months old.

If it runs for a few minutes and stalls I would take a look at the breather pipe for the fuel tank. If it is blocked the bike will idle for a few minutes until the pressure in the tank drops low enough that the fuel supply is interupted.

Possibly stuck choke plungers.

It needs the choke on when first starting, but as the bike warms up the choke is not needed. If the choke plunger is stuck in the open position then it will errr choke with fuel and possibly stall. Also check the idle screw. If the revs are set too low and the plungers are stuck open then a low idle speed will accentuate the problem.
