swimmers ear?????
 

hey all,

need some help, feel like i'm going mad. really really want to bang my head against the wall at the mo.

Yesterday I got home from the gym (jogging, swimming) about 8:30 pm had dinner, and while eating could hear a noise that i thought was coming from next door.

The best I can describe is a low pitch humming - kinda like if next door was playing bassy music or sanding the walls.

Anyway it gets to 11:30, i can't sleep and seriously peeved so i head outside to knock on the door and ask them to turn it down. but as i go out i notice that the noise is also outside, follows me around, always seems to be on my left side and stops for a second if I take a deep breath.

yup...the only logical conclusion i can make is that the noise is with me....in my ear :oops: . Ear plugs make it worse, and while i was ok at work i don't think i can take another night of not sleeping....

anyone had a similar experience/ got any advice??? I don't know what it is....swimmers ear? But I was in a health club pool????

I thought swimmers ear was just where water was trapped in the ear canal which usually clears up by the morning.

try holding your nose & try to breath out of it

tried that. i shook water out of my ears after getting out of the pool to.

also tried hanging upside down, holding head on one side :(

You might have a bit of wax in your ear that has trapped water behind it. It will go, but get your GP (or the practice nurse) to have a look-see :thumbsup:

If you do have wax in your ears and you swim underwater then the the water-pressure can impact the wax. Not pleasant and makes you temporarily deaf.

Get it looked at.

Very true, and hilarious to your friends when it happens when they take the mickey out of you and you can't hear a thing. It didn't happen to me, but a friend of my cousin. But enough sea diving stories.

It does sound like water in your ear canal, I had that a lot as young lad & free diver. The local cure was to try and dilute the water with 2 drops with a substance that is not easily available in this country and then turn you head and jump until the water comes out.

I got this a bit when I was diving in dodgy bodies of water. It felt more like a pressure with me, very dull pain and muffled hearing.
I got it in both ears at the same time once. I was waiting tables in NYC at the time. Not as funny as you would think.

I ignored it because I am a tool. But its off to the Eye and Ear hospital or similar with you m'darlin. (Edit : if you have a neti pot, which you wont, you could try Neti. That can free up the Eustachian tubes there... maybe.)

I suffer like this, but because of ear wax. I know I have ear wax problems and for me it is the first sign of an impending cold, the ear canals seem to narrow slightly and suddenly I am deaf. 5 days of putting olive oil in my ears and a visit to the practice nurse to pressure wash the crud out.

Boy does the world sound loud for the first hour afterwards

Agree with the guys comments above.

I suffer with ear wax just like timwilky. Flaming nightmare, always a pain when I catch a cold / flu etc.

Get some olive oil drops (boots, tesco's, comes in a small bottle with a pippet)

Get down to your GP to arrange the Nurses mini-Karcher to clear all the rubbish out!!!


Do Not use any other ear wax removing products like "otex" they can cause tissue damage, so my GP told me!!!!!

A nice warm bath might and cotton budding might help?? ... or get some ear-drops from the local chemist. If you are like me then you would have to be hanging out of your own @rse before you actually go see a GP!!! :D

If it doesn't clear after a few days of doing that, then you might have a little infection in there?! Then it is GP time :cry:

If all else fails you will have to reside to the fact that perhaps you are just a nutter?!?! :D
