Cush Drive Rubbers
 

Hi all,
What a great weekend its been and I hope you've all been out there clocking up some winter miles. Now lets wait for the NIP's to arrive ..........
Here's a quick one for you. Any idea how long Cush rubbers last ? Mines a K1 with 11K on the clock. Had the rear wheel off recently and when I took the sprocket side of the wheel off (it fell of actually) some of the rubbers fell out. Should they be a tight fit ?
Should they be replaced after X miles or X amount of time :?:

Assemble the rubbers and sprocket carrier, if the carrier can be rotated relative to the wheel, the rubbers are goosed, if not they're OK.

Can I just confirm. Basically assemble the wheel with the rubbers in place and see if I can twist the sprocket whilst holding the wheel. What you're saying is that I shouldn't be able to - correct :?

this is correct, i had to knock my zzr cush rubbers in with a rubber mallet they were that tight.

We replaced our cush drive rubbers at around 30,000 miles. The new ones were also a very tight fit when we put them in. They soon loosened up, but only enough to allow the sprocket carrier to be replaced easily without being too loose.. If our experience in anything to go by, you should be ok for a few more miles yet. :D

Is there any way of testing this without removing the wheel? I have about 12k miles on my K5 and have wondered about this (in the long,dark hours of weekday nights) If they need doing, is it easy. how much are the parts?

yours should be ok with them miles on.

removing the wheel is great fun anyhow :wink: you can get to all that dirt on the inside of your swingarm. :D

Great and thanks. When I replaced mine, I just 'placed' them in the wheel without any effort -certainly didn't need a mallet ! They're certainly not a sloppy fit, but don't need any pressure to put in place. If they're not too expensive I think I'll get a set......thx...

my kawasaki ones were £25-£30 if i remember rightly.
