Rear Shock Upgrade,

Had a look through the archives and seen that the ZX636 rear shock slips straight into the curvey, but what about the pointy.

I've got a K5 SVS and is there a rear shock that would be a direct replacement for my stock unit. If not a direct swap, which shock would be best for a sturdy biker (about 16 stone I bet with all my kit and helmet on  )

Im in the same boat mate except mines a K4, but not a whole lotta difference. But most the people as you say seem to be curvey owners. I may just bite the bullet this weekend and let you know how I get on.

Do some more searching. There is heaps of information about which GSXR etc shocks fit the pointys...

Hi,

Shameless plug but I'm selling my ZX636 shock. I'm not sure about the pointy but if you find that it will fit and need one drop me a PM.

Thanks,
Andy

so the K5 gixxer thou unit looks right,

How hard is it to fit? Is it just the battery trimming like most other units?

Cheers

I have only done it on my curvy, but can't imagine the process is any different???

Yep a bit of battery tray trimming all you need. On my curvy getting the bottom bolt to fit was a bit of a sod, nothing a few washers didn't sort mind ;)

Do you have access to a ABBA type stand?

furrybean 01-02-07 01:46 PM

Ohhhhh yes

This looks like a good bet, I assume the K5 and K6 GSXR's are the same.

You need to also buy a nut and bolt to fix the bottom of the shock to the linkage - I can't remember the part numbers, but they have been quoted loads of times on here. It's also worth noting that the bolt goes in the opposite way to the SV stock bolt that came out. The shock isn't mounted centrally and you'll have clearance issues with the dogbones unless you do this.

List isn't mine - It has been shamelessly poached from SV friends across the pond. :D
