Government Petition Site - Inheritance Tax

Might have been posted before, but I came across this online petition site after the Daily Express started a petition against inheritance tax

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ihtcrusade/

I voted for a couple of the others too while I was on there.

Presumably you won't mind income tax going up to take into account the lost tax revenues from scrapping inheritance tax???

Oi!! I make money out of telling people how to avoid IHT

Hmm, not sure it should be scrapped altogether, just rethunk so that there is a sliding scale of taxation.

Yup.
A totally fair tax IMO. If you are loaded... who says your little jumped up lazy as sin sproglets should be loaded too when you bite the dust?
All they will don in the mean time is flute about waiting for daddy to die.

Nah. Put the money back into circulation. If you are going to be loaded, at least do something to deserve it. Rob a bank if you are upper class, inbred and too thick to figure out another method.

So if you use your money to improve your lot, the government should be entitled to take it from your children when you die, or you could be a lazy scrounger, never work a day in your life, living off the state getting handouts?

I'm not saying I would scrap it totally, like debs says, a sliding scale would be better. Besides, I was more pointing out the petition site, in general than anything else.

Do you remember John Major's vision of wealth cascading down the generations....

inheritance tax seems like the perfect tax to me.

the people that pay it are dead and so presumably won't miss the money. I'd rather pay one big lump sum when I'm dead than have the government steal 40% of everything i earn whilst I'm alive.

i also thinks its a good social leveler - if nobody gets a huge hand out from rich parents then everybody gets the same chances in life, and the world would be a much better place.

I dont see how people think it is a 'fair' tax, tax was already taken when the person worked for the money, why should it be taxed again?

Now there's a question, along with why am I paying tax on these items I buy when I've already paid tax out of my wages? Road Tax, Petrol Tax, Income Tax, Air travel Tax, Inheritance Tax... have I miss some out... I'm sure I have.
