Splitting the lower farings

Ive taken mine off to do a small repair around one of the bolt holes, i got my bike up and removed the lowers (2003 pointy) in one piece.
now looking at them im in two minds weather to get them into two parts to make it easyer to work on.

My question is how do the small black buttons at bottom come apart? or do they break once removed and new one's will be required.

replys welcome.

Michael.

Push the middle pin out from the inside to remove. In the immortal words of the Haynes manual, refitting is the reverse of removal!

Plastic pop rivets? Just push the middle pin in about 5mm and then pull out the whole thing. To reinsert, push the middle part out the other way so it sticks out about 5mm. Insert the whole thing, then push the middle in to snap into place. easy once you know how.

On the lowers they're not the same push-pin rivets...

Use a trim-clip removal tool (or a fork, bizarrely) to lever the large black head out of the clip from the outside, or as suggested push the centre pin from the inside of the clip.

Then remove the large head and extract the clip.

CAREFUL on refitting, the four 'legs' on the outer part of the clip can be a PITA to get back through the holes in the panels, and the legs sometimes can snap off. Take care!

Don't use a small electrical screwdriver as it will embedded in the palm of your hand

I can vouch for that, they are bloody pain!

Mine broke on the middle pin, so I swapped it for a small bolt and rubber coated washer for easy removal in the future.

me too kwak..!

when i struggled and got mine off to do the mesh I was worried I might have to put them back together with cable ties cut off neatly... they are at the bottom after all!
