Guitar amps
Anyone know anything about acoustic guitar amps? I used to play a lot of electric guitar, but had to sell all my equipment to move house, which left me with my old faithful £40 nylon string acoustic.
Anyway, I have recently bought a new electro acoustic Takamine and am pondering buying an amp. The thing is I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for. Ideally something small - 30-50 watts and definitely a combo, but after looking around there are amps specifically for acoustic guitars - Anyone know how they differ from electric? I always wanted to get a valve combo, like the Peavey Classics, but am wondering if this is the wrong thing for an acoustic. I intend to pop into a local shop and have a play before buying something, but I was hoping someone could give me a heads up on how acoustic amps differ and if that's what I should be looking for. Thanks Luke |
I think they're pretty different... I know Trace Elliot do a range of acoustic amps which are highly regarded. I play mine through my Vox, which gives interesting distortion but isn't so good for making it sound like an acoustic :)

Don't bother with an amp. Decent speakers and Native Instrument's guitar rig (this is a PC program that comes with hardware) is all you need. :)
Seriously, saves you spending on FX pedals and loads of time setting up, too. |
