need advice

My SV has been declared off the road for sometime now, it has no tax or insurance and has quite badly worn tyres.

Im putting it up for sale cheap but im wondering if someone comes to view it, they are surely going to want to testride it and im worried some "noob" will testride it and bin it due to the tyres. You need to be careful on them!

I personally have got used to them so I know how to ride it but they desperately need changing, add that to having no tax or insurance how can I safely get someone to test ride the bike?

Opinions please?

dont allow test rides then, sell it sold as seen.

As you have stated on a public forum that the tyres are not safe, you cannot allow test rides, since you could be held liable for any damage / injuries.

Having said that, if the tyres are bad a test ride might put off potential buyers as the bike will feel unstable etc. Go with Kwak's suggestion and sell 'as seen'.

Yep, that's the most sensible advice, let them see it start up and running. If I was buying though I would want the price of a set of tyres knocked off.

Or you'll have to put on new tyres, a months insurance and some tax to allow test rides.

Yep, as already said, sold as seen, it is illegal to be ridden on the road, and that goes for you letting someone else ride away on it if you sell (unless they have all the correct documentation).

what do you mean by the tyres are worn? are they below 1mm across 3/4's of the tyres width?

You could always get new tyres, tax etc and add that onto the price of the bike..or have that as a clause, that u would add that but at an additional price.

Fraser's right - if you allow someone to ride on tyres you know are illegal then you are 'aiding and abetting' or 'counselling or procuring' and you could be prosecuted for it. CU32/CU34, 3 points plus a fine, I forget how much.

I'd be inclined not to buy new tyres for it as if you buy someting that the new owner doesn't want on there they may well not want to pay the extra for them. Sold as seen is fine, though I'd say quantify the tyres in how bad they are. Squared off is fine, >1mm of tread across 75% of the tyre is the legal minimum as pointed out by fraser01

you could always buy some part worn tyres off ebay for about 70 bucks and just shove them on it if you are that worried.

but the fact remains that Caines could be prosecuted for any of the offences listed above.
