Fork *CLACK* noise

When I drive over any road imperfections at speed, my forks compress and make a *clack* sound. I'm going to change the oil next weekend, but any idea untill then?

Every SV I've ever ridden has done that. Theres various theories as to what the cause was. I just use earplugs and then I cant hear it anyway :D

It is a 'design feature'

Cartridge forks vs. damper rods, perhaps?

Seems like a design flaw like that would be easily detected and corrected in the testing phase of development.....whatever.

PS. My bike has 20k miles and never had the fork oil changed, should I get on that?

My brother changed his front springs to Ohlins items and from then on the CLANK has vanished. Mine still does it whenever I ride over a pothole or speedbump. I found the Ohlins too hard for the roads I ride so kept with the stock for the time being. Hoping someone manufactures fork damper internal replacements to cartridge that doesn't break the bank. Then I'll change them.

Yes! Doing mine now and with less than 6K on the clock (but 5 years old) the oil is full of crud. You could perhaps try heavier oil to increase damping, might reduce the 'clack'? Do a search about fork oil, it;s been discussed many times. ;)
