Low side....20 minutes ago.

Hi. As I sit here nursing my 30 mph lowside wounds, I'd like some help with the fix up job. Short story, hit some salt, slid into some mud and sticks.

Broken left tail fairing
broken windscreen
broken gear selector
Knee sized dent tank...ouch.

I can do the cosmetic stuff, but the engine is idling higher than before the crash, and is being sticky. Also i seem to have some backfireing. It only ran on its side for less than 5 seconds. (before i hit the kill switch) What would causes sticky response. There doesnt seem to be any power loss. Im sure im missing something but my heart is still racing. Excuse me, I must go bleed in the sink.

PS. I can knock the dent out from inside the tank, i think. What should i do bout the paint loss in the area?

The tank is double skinned so you wont be able to knock the dent out, your options are fill in the dent or tack weald and pull out the dent then smooth over the tacks.

Check that the bar end weight has not been bent and sticking the throttle tube.

Sorry to hear about it.

Was it a LHS spill? I guess it was from the damage (but I'm stupid)

If you think the idle speed is off. check the idle speed adjuster hasn't been affected by mud and sticks.

To clarify, the RPMs are sticky, not the throttle itself.

The idle adjust screw is on that side of the bike. Play with that and see if it cures the problem?

Im angry right now and dont feel like it. Maybe this weekend I be able to face it. The idle screw is prob messed up, but that doesnt explain why the rpm's dont immidiatly return to idle when the throttle is released. I will take apart the throttle assembly this weekend. I was hoping there was a generic cause for laging responses.

Really sorry to hear the bad news too.

Check your choke cable - it may have become mangled and may still be feeding into your engine causing the higher revs during idle.

If it's not expensive to send across, I have a spare standard windscreen bubble (clear). Yours if you want it free. But it's for a curvey SVS.

Your tank dent may actually be easier to 'fill in' using a metal polymer, and then sanded down and painted over rather than tapped out.

Hope you're okay and not too shaken by it. Even a low-side in this kind of weather can wreck confidence.

Good luck.
