Fuel or no Fuel?
OK folks, a little question, or maybe not a question, and don't worry, its not a puzzle either!
I recently ordered what was described as a "Fuel race exhaust." OK, fair enough. It's arrived. Now, I would guess that an SV link pipe is around 60mm is wide? (internally). This exhaust is pretty much an open pipe (nothing to stop you looking straight through it), and the exit is 50mm ish wide (internally). There's no identifying marks on it, no Fuel sticker etc. These two facts made me slightly concerned (but not overly). I checked the Fuel website, and yes, it looks exactly like the Fuel Stainless Steel Round can (not the budget one). OK... Now, this can has never even seen what a baffle looks like, there's no where to physically put one. But then, it was sold as a race can. According to the Fuel website, I can only see road legal cans... Do Fuel even make race cans (which this pretty obviously is?) I'm not overly fussed if it's not a fuel can, just nice to know for when people ask (or if I sell it on etc). It's also clearly marked "NOT FOR ROAD USE" lacking the BS AU / Emark markings, and has no baffle. Therefore I know it's illegal to use it on the road. But there's a part of me that's screaming "You have a race can, you have to try it out!" So, if I put this can on the SV, my question is, does anyone know if I'd need a fuel map done? Or would it just be better to? How much better? How much would it cost to get one done? Would anyone like to hazzard a guess as to how loud this exaust would be (and what it is)? The can btw, is approx 240mm in circumfrence, and 440mm ish long. Many thanks folks :) |
Re: Fuel or no Fuel?
you wouldnt need a fuel map to be done but you wouldnt get the best out of it without one. If your going to do that you may as well raise the tank and fit a decent air filter whilst your at it so you dont have to get it remapped over and over again. I would see if you can polish off the not for road use bit and then stick it on and let it rip. It will make it sound a lot louder than stock but as for if its going to be silly loud (like hurt your ears loud) i have no idea. The only thing to do is to try it.

Re: Fuel or no Fuel?
So tank spacers, K&N & possibly earplugs to be ordered then?
Interesting...TYVM :D More thoughts welcomed folks :) |
Re: Fuel or no Fuel?
It won't be too loud
A: because it's not a full system B: Because there's no such thing  |
Re: Fuel or no Fuel?
As regards fueling, these are pictures of my rear spark plug - to me they look fine, perhaps someone else could confirm or otherwise.

So long as I'm awake when riding, the clutch has it's uses. My bike doesn't need MOT'ing for 2 & 1/2 years ish. However, if plod were to see a great big bloody grenade launcher on the side of my bike... hmmm (50mm opening). The question was more as to what this can could be, and how much would it need a fuel map? Also how much a fuel mapping costs. |
Re: Fuel or no Fuel?
If you know my exhaust, I don't think your "fuel" one could be less restrictive than mine. My spark plug pics wwere supposed to confirm that you won't need a re map (if someone can confirm they look OK)
Goodnight! |

The spark plug looks ok to me. I've also heard stories of valve/shim damage by a wrong air/fuel mix... maybe that was scare mongering... hence why I'm asking the org ;) |

I had it checked on a dyno anyway to put my mind at rest. If you pick a dyno operator with a yoshi box, he can play with the fuelling without having to buy a power commander. |
Re: Fuel or no Fuel?
Andyaikido, where did you get yours dyno'd? I was thinking of the same thing for the same reason?
