Car accident - any effect on bike insurance?
You'll have probably seen that I've had a bump in the car. Liability is deemed to be mine so I will lose my NCB on the car - it sucks big time but c'est la vie...
Question is - do I have to declare the car accident to my bike's insurer too? And if so, when? Should I do it immediately or when my policy's up for renewal? I seem to remember when I first insured the bike that the insurance co. wanted to know about any accidents or claims in any vehicle, but I may be imagining it... Also, will it have any effect on the NCB i've built up on the bike (will be 2 yrs in July)? Sorry if it's a numpty question! |
Re: Car accident - any effect on bike insurance?
not sure about this but i am in a similar situation, i think you should tell your insurance company's but you may only loose the one bonus thats why we build up the 2 surely.

Re: Car accident - any effect on bike insurance?
no the ncb will not be lost as its acumulated for each type of transport and on each policy, so if you had 2 bikes and 2 policies then you could loose the NCB on one and still have it on the other, but you cant add them together, you also have to declare any accidents of any transport to all insurers.

Re: Car accident - any effect on bike insurance?
I'll agree with Kwak. Sucks real big time that we have to declare accidents at renewal time in other vehicles but shouldn't affect bikes NCB.
I think it's a completely different risk how you treat a car and how you treat your bike.:smt093 edit: TSM's too quick for me so not metioned :) |

Re: Car accident - any effect on bike insurance?
Tell me about it
My wife wrote my car off ( she's a named driver on my car insurance) & I have to declare it on my bike insurance. I wrote my bike off , thought no problems I had got Protected NCB of 8 years , turned out protected meant step back to 2 years NCB Day light robbery ! Cheers Steve |
Re: Car accident - any effect on bike insurance?
Well I was out the country for 2 2/2 years, came back and my 4 yrs NCB were now not valid...(company car, insurance not in my name etc..) v annoyed, car insurance is costing me a lot....
Still got to insure the SV over here so will be interested if they'll take my 18 mths NCB (even if it gets rounded down to a year) over here. Anyone got experience of this? |
