Court action threatened
So I've just been out to the shop, whilst I'm standing waiting, I was reading the paper.
One article in particular, was about this old guy who'd been with the same water company for years. Gets his water on a meter, and says his bill is always £16.62, and this is what he pays at the post office. Apparently, his bill went up to £16.64, and he either wasn't told, or didn't notice. The company then sent him a standard issue letter 3 days after he paid his usual amount, threatening to send the balif's around & possible court action, because of this 2p debt. Now my reaction, would of been "screw them, they can wait for their money. If they want to send balifs, fine, I'll pay the balifs, saves me the trip to the post office!" What does this old guy do? He calls them up to play hell with them, as you'd expect from an older member of society. However, he also writes them a cheque for 2p, and sends it off happily. His bill that he has to make good on. The article quoted him as saying "It's legal tender, they have to accept it, and they have to pay for processing it." Genius, pure genius I tell's the! Someone give that man a cigar! :smt046 |

Or, he could have given them some of his own water back.
