Use by date for oil ?

I have about 1 1/2 litres of oil left in the container from my last oil change which has been kept in a cool dark place for about 12 months. Is this oil still OK to use after this amount of time If I buy another litre to add to it as I dont want to but another 4 Litre container to have yet another 1 1/2 litres left over !
Obviously I'll buy the same make and grade to add to it (Castrol GPS 10-40W Semi Synthetic):confused:

i always do this? i buy a motul 5100 from HG and only use about half? now i have 2 half containers in my garage? thanks for the info billy i'll use the old stuff next time.
