Bloody Shocking. All for 2 effin weeks of athletics. I reckon probably 80% of that is management or consultancy costs. Its crap. Yes its good we have the olympics, but at these kind of costs, i think its a waste of money

At 50p it would be a waste of money.

London is NOT going to be able to cope with this.

You know that a lot of wealthy people are going to come in for this, live in rented accomodation in the West End or hotels at Heathrow and travel back and forth through central London in cars.

Hopefully I will be on the other side of the world in NZ at the time of the Olympics, either visiting the wifes family, or hopefully living there.

we'd all be fibbing if we didnt think the cost of the games wouldnt rise, and that it wont rise further

whether its worth the money or whether the capital will cope remains to be seen.

im still pleased we got the games

The olympics do nothing for the vast majority of the uk population. It is simply a way of taking money out of the rate payers of london and stealing from lottery funds to build infrastructure that will never be used once the games finish. However the policicians will then turn round and tell those same rate payers "We have spent £10 billion on regenerating this area of London"

At least the stadium built for the commonwealth games in Manchester got a purpose afterwards as the home of Madchester city. But I gather councils in London are not happy that they will get costly buildings to run etc. typical example would be who would want a building with two olympic size pools, the operation costs would be horrendous.

I know the olympic movement will only approve bids from capital cities. But London is not central to the UK. Nobody unless they have a serious interest in an olympic sport are going to be bothered fighting their way to the venues, paying over the odds etc.

Look at the stadium build for the world student games in Sheffield. it gets used now as an occassional venue for concerts. It is a disgrace. poorly laid out and of no use to anyone post games.

Well the chaos that the commonwealth games caused Manchester. Over crowded cities like London will grind to a halt. The only event that personally caused me hassle was the "mountain biking" held in an area outside of Manchester that real bikers use (When did you last see a mountain in a city?). So those days we were disrupted by push biking nutters and plod blocking perfectly good roads for a bunch of jonny foreigners who do not pay anything to use our roads.

I deliberately stayed away from Manchester whilst the commonwealth games were on. I was stupid enough to have to work in Paris whilst the world cup was there. These type of international events are simply an excuse for profit taking by hotels/bars etc. Do nothing for the locals, and leave an expensive legacy.
