I know many many moons ago you used to be able to get a powder, mix it with boiling water and rinse out the lens in it, once dry it was waterproof, do it as many time as you wanted for the darker tints, we used to do the indicater lenses like that and even standard screens, you could mask off sections or a name in insulating tape and that would remain clear, although we are talking perhaps 20 years ago now

Cheers Mark.

Just out of interest, why are you keen to do this on a bike other than a black or very dark blue/purple/green one? I thought aesthetically the point of smoking the lights was to make them blend into the black bodywork. On a yellow bike, surely clear (or even yellow tint) would look better? Your bike, your choice, that's just my opinion. ;)

i think clear will look odd, as from the back there is a lot of black the tail bit behind the cowl & the tailtidy all black, BUT the red light is quite dark so it looks ok as it is. if i could get a black lens cheap i probaly would though:smt031
