Handheld Speed trap
 

A CSO has been operating with a handheld speed gun yesterday and today on London Road, Burpham just as you come off the sliproad from the A3. Just a warning, it's a 40mph zone btw.

Are CSO's "allowed" to do this ?

I thought they had almost no real powers other than to advise the public, and advise the police of incidents. Maybe I'm wrong...

Dunno. Probably has something to do with the Surrey community speedwatch thing. Bright yellow jacket, looks like a copper, can't miss her.

Thanks for that Gary, so they have no power then, it's just a case of making them look like coppers so people hang on the anchors suddenly when they come round a corner, Huuum, that's safe:shock:

I read somewhere that there is a program of locals doing this. All they do is report it to the police and they send you a letter. Cant remember where the details were though.

"The volunteers work in pairs at an identified location selected by local communities in consultation with Surrey Police, provided they are within 30 mph and 40 mph limits. They record speeds of motorists in a log and offenders travelling at excess speeds will be identified from the data provided and sent a ‘yellow’ letter of advice which will also ask for their co-operation in the future.

A maximum of two warning letters, along with safety information, will be sent to offenders and if they are caught speeding again, they will be targeted for enforcement by police, where appropriate. The aim, however, is for the presence of the Speedwatch volunteers out on the streets to make drivers think twice about their driving habits and slow down. "

so slow down, then when you go by get right over close to the kerb and bounce it off the limiter...

if you're really good, drop the clutch and leave a huge black line starting just where they're standing., what are they going to do, jump in their kia and give chase?
