Shy SV?
Hiya Guys,
I was wondering if anyone can help me as i'm so confused, here's the problem, I haven't rode my sv650 for a few months now and have had the battery changed which the new one is on trickle charge when not in the bike. I can start the bike in the back garden no problem, then when i push the bike round the front of the house and try and start it she refuses. It is alarmed which is switched off naturally, but at the weekend on third attempt to start the bike round the fronts when fully charged battery was used, fuelled topped up (ruled out all the non brainers) it wouldn't start even when trying to jump start off my blokes bike, to which the alarm goes off drawing the attention of most the neighbours which was embarassing as the alarm button on the key wouldn't work so i had to remove the battery lead. So back round to the garden the bike went, i got all the paper work out and discovered that the MOT is due in two weeks time. Is my bike shy? Again tonight i could probably attach the battery start her up no problem? take her round the front a no starter? HELP!! |
Re: Shy SV?
Kill switch? Immobaliser?
Does it turn over at all? |
Re: Shy SV?
Fires up beautifully in the back garden, get it round the front it wont.
I turn off the alarm before starting it up but after a while the alarm button on the key stops working and shuts down the bike? When i try and start the bike round the front it tries to start up but just cant manage to fire up. Kill switch is off |
Re: Shy SV?
If it starts around the back but not the fornt, then its going to be something very very simple. Check that you havent knocked it in gear, check that the stand is up, check the kill switch. If this is all correct, then maybe you have a dodgy clutch switch. Look underneath the clutch lever. You will see a plug type thing, pull it off, and bridge the 2 connectors with a paper clip. If she fires, then this is your problem. Replace clutch switch.

Re: Shy SV?
Has there been reports of SVs being affected by radio transmissions in some areas like some cars?
eg Mobile phone masts, taxi, police, aliens etc etc Just a thought! RR |
Re: Shy SV?
why not keep it on while you push it round to the front, then take it for a ride and see if it cuts out. if not turn it off and try starting again.

Re: Shy SV?
Perhaps if you put a baggy jumper on it, it wouldn't mind being seen in public?!!? :D
It has to be one of the safety switches playing up ... |
Re: Shy SV?
You say it has not been used for a few months. You are aware that fuel only has a relative short life span. Couple of months, three at the most. You didn't mention what model SV you have. Carbed or FI.
It may be possible that on initial start up round the back that clean fuel is going through, but as soon as you start up dirty fuel is getting drawn into the system, so on 2nd attempt dirty or contaminated fuel has been forced through thus causing starting problems. Just a thought that's all. |
Re: Shy SV?
is your back garden enclosed? agrophobia?
|
Re: Shy SV?
So if you start it, stop it, but keep it in the garden, will it start again? :)
