Manchester to Carlisle and back
Thinking of doing the following run tomorrow and want to know:
1) where the police will be hanging out 2) if it's worth doing at all on a Bank Holiday, or will I be sat behind caravans for hundreds of miles at a time? Manchester - Clitheroe Clitheroe - Lancaster (trough of bowland) Lancaster - Carlisle (mainly A6) Carlisle - Haydon Bridge (A69) Haydon Bridge - Penrith (A686) Back to Manchester (poss take in a bit of the N.Yorks Dales if there's time) p.s. I've done this route before and know it's stunning, just wondering if i'll get nicked or pi$$ed off with holiday traffic as it's Good Friday Cheers, Andy. |
Re: Manchester to Carlisle and back
The police sit on the A6 between Penrith and Junction 42 of the M6. Generally in Hogh and Low Hesket and on the 1st roundabout out of Penrith. There's 2 new speed cameras on the A69 between Carlisle and Haltwhistle. Both of them near Low Row garage. Traffic will be OK ont he A6 and the A69 is easy overtaking on the bike anyway. I only know the Carlisle area so this is by no means a comprehensive list of trouble spots.

Re: Manchester to Carlisle and back
Had an excellent run, traffic really thinned out in the afternoon.
Saw a motorcycle bobby doing speed checks in a village on the A683 but I was trundeling along at the time, and a couple in vans parked in laybys on the A6 and A69 but didn't appear to have any speed guns. If I missed any of them I guess it's just a case of sitting back and waiting for the NIP's to appear in my letterbox. |
