Bike breakdown cover?
 

Currently with h&r insurance, don't know wether to phone em to add it or go seperate.

Any recommendations?

I've been with the RAC for donkeys but mostly because every time I phone up to cancel a nice man in Mumbai offers me a huge discount!

Must say I was more impressed with the AA when they came for the SV last year (Suzuki new bike cover thing), the guy even had a bike trailer :eek:

Next door had a breakdown on hers recently and Carole Nash sorted her out pretty quickly.

I'm not helping am I?

I just got a quote for £58. This includes an additional premium for ....

We will recover you, your passengers and your vehicle following theft or vandalism.
We'll bring your vehicle back home following illness or injury to the driver. Recovery after an accident. (different from breakdown)

Not really heard of them so still thinking.

i have mine thru bennetts. i pay about £68 I think which includes taking me and pillion home from where ever I break down.

My one and only breakdown was at charnock richard on M6 a couple of years ago. bike kept cutting out while I was in outside lane and when I managed to get to hard shoulder it started again. did this for a few miles then died. I pushed it for about a mile. then phoned from orange emergency phone. had no details with me and couldnt remember name of company. they sent man out to get me. I had to get bike up onto lorry myself, strap it on myself and get it off 4 miles later at services, he then charged me £158. I went into services got ride mag, noted bennetts number from advert and phoned from phone box (no mobile as it had fallen out my pocket on M6 a few days earlier) they put me thru. guy turned up 2 hours later. I had bought sweets and mag for remaining 200 mile journey, looking forward to not having ride bike in the rain. only thing he checked bike first to find a loose battery connection, he fixed it and sent me on my way. I was gutted.

once again Im not a lot of help here but just to say whoever you get cover with, keep details on you. lol

I am with AA
covers the rider/driver...not the bike/car
covers my car and bike...and anythig else i drive/ride...

3rd top package i think it is at £110 (ish)
Roadside / Relay / Home Start

The main thing with with AA is that IF you break down in middle of no where...or at home....
AA will take your bike to ANY UK garage of your choice...(distance does not matter)

as with RAC and other roadside people...you are restricted to 25 miles from where you brake down....useless if you have a bike under warrenty AND you are 100 miles in the middle of no where....

a bit more than what some pay for cover...BUT...never had any problems with them and it does cover anything you own drive/ride....


will take to ANY UK land garage of your choice...(no limit on mileage)

DaBlackKnight speak with da forked tongue. The RAC will take you anywhere if you have the Recovery option but only 10 miles if you have the Roadside option.

I've had my bike taken back to Glasgow from a crash near Kilchoan on the B8007 to Ardnamurchan and you can't get much closer to the middle of nowhere than that!

Also worth mentioning that they didn't care I'd just crashed it, as opposed to having a break down, as I've heard the AA can get a bit arsey about that...

Carole Nash IMO, they use a network of local recovery companies so you get superior service from the likes of

Instead of risible service from the likes of the RAC. I can feel a rant coming on, I'll take that to another thread :)

The RAC crews tend to be good, but the call handling and organisation, if it constantly improves from here on, might someday rise to the level of "terrible" from its current depths :rolleyes: Won't deal with them again, not if they paid me.

Have to disagree with Northy, the patrols are likely to be just as crap as the organisation! The last time Mrs Tiger used the RAC they caused a huge traffic jam and made her cry! Lots of warning lights so she pulled into a shop car park, bloke diagnoses an alternator failure but says it'll be OK to drive to the nearest garage and disappears, Jilly gets about 100 yards on battery power and breaks down at the entrance to the Clyde Tunnel. At 5 o'clock. On a Friday.

dam..not good!

i have had AA out at house and just off the ferry at dunoon...
Both guys that turned up were bikers themselves...
and most of their colleagues at work also were bikers...
and if they r not bikers...their mates on the radio/mobile r bikers...

RAC must have changed their level of cover then...as when i phoned them they were shocking!..well..not shocking...disapointing as they were offering a a gd discount for roughly the same cover as i have for the AA just now....

only they would not take my bike to the garage of my choice from home start or roadside.......a bit useless when ur bike is under warrranty
