Main jet sizes for a Renegade slip on?
Hi All
My bike has a Renegade slip on can on and the jetting feels like it hasn't been adjusted. I worry about bikes running lean for obvious reasons and want to put some larger main jets in there for the interim. I'll get the bike set up on a dyno eventually but I want to spend my money on the suspension first. So can anyone recommend some main jet sizes for a stock bike other than a Renegade slip on race can? I've been trawling the archives and 140s seem to be favourite when just adding a race can, but wanted to ask in case anyone has the same set up as me, or incase you think different? Also where do order your jets from? Do just say can i have 2 x 140 mainjets Or do they want the bike make model and carb number? Many thanks. |

Jets will be bike specific, personally I'd put it on a dyno and have it checked out. For just a slip-on it's unlikley it's running lean enough to be a problem, but it will be £20-£30 to have a run which will show you exactly where the bike is in terms of power and where it's lean or rich. The fueling varies from one bike to another but I'd want some evidence of a problem before changing carb settings unless I knew more about feeling fueling while riding than I do.
You may find for instance that the top end's fine but the bottom end needs adjusting in which case bigger jets wouldn't sort it.... Check the plugs out for a very rough gide to whether it's too rich or lean:cool: |

If you've only changed the can and nothing else, then you shouldn't need rejetting at all,even holding it a full revs you'll get 20 minutes or so before you're doing harm in anyway, given not many ride like that it'd be over fuelled most of the time.
You'll probably find you just need to balance the carbs, if the bike has had the can on for a couple of hundred miles or so, whip out the plug and check the colour, if it's very white/light biscuit (back of Halfords manuals has a usful guide), then you may have a point, but otherwise don't bother. I run renegades. I have run it with and without carb mods, and she runs just fine without to be honest, and the fuel economy (If youa re into that sort of things0 is slightly better without.

I also run a Renegade slip on with out having the jets changed. I would imagine its running slightly lean but as I've not changed the filter or anything else I think it will be fine.
That said it does pop a bit but I think its got nothing to do with the exhaust as I was doing it with the standard can the other week... |

Thanks for the replies. In my experiance of carbed bikes if you alter the rate the burnt fuel comes out then you need to alter the rate at which it goes in! Although some bikes run slightly rich at certain revs and sometimes a balancing act occurs. Maybe I'll temporarily refit the standard can and see how the bike feels with that on. The bike feels like its running lean as it is? |
