Is all TV now rubbish ?

Or am I just a grumpy old fart ? (although I'm only 37 !)

I don't watch a lot of TV although I do catch bits of whatever Mrs Tricky is watching.

Here are some examples:

Life on Mars - Did actually watch all of this. The news where going on about how brilliant the ending was. I thought it was stupid, which has been pretty much my feeling on the whole second series. Although there have been some very funny or entertaining moments (The Camberwick Green bit had me rolling on the floor laughing). At times I think the writers have used the fact that its set in 1973 as an excuse to be as un PC as possible.
"Moving like a spastic in a magnet factory" springs to mind.

Ugly Betty - Mrs Tricky loves this and has apperently won awards. I can't actually stand more than 10 minutes of it. It reminds me of "Soap" (if anyone remembers that) its so ridiculous. Maybe I'm missing the point.

Yes it is, and I am the same age, so don't worry. By the way, sounds like your missus and mine watch the same stuff. Do you find yourself understanding the ins and outs or Corry and (slit me wrists, depression setting in) Eastenders without realising you had been dragged into the plots subliminelly (sp?)

Didnt watch the life on mars thing. Ugly betty should be on kids tv, load of cr*p. I was just saying last night that I am going to instigate a week of no telly in our family.... it is a load of sh*t that we all sit and watch, mind numbed and unable to speak to one another cos we want to hear the tele.

It is all rubbish! but then I am also old! (33)!

I think once the kids get used to no tele for a day or two we will be able to spend quality time doing things together (yer, righto!!!!!)

I can think of nothing on the box at the mo that is any good.

I admit to watching corrie - steve mcdonald is hilarious. I also enjoy the apprentice (missed it last night as it said car wars was on) Dont really watch anything else as the kids are usually watching their rubbish.

there's a lot of good stuff on TV still. its just that there's so much other crap on it can get lost.

too much choice can be a bad thing.

I've never had TV; we never had one when I was growing up, and since leaving home I've not really seen the need to have one. I don't think I've missed much, and certainly get amused when all my friends sit in watching things like Big Brother when it's beautiful and sunny outside.

Tomcat, you should definately deny your offspring TV, they'll be much more productive as a result!

Don't worry about it Tricky. I'm not even 30 yet and I'm left wondering what my £37 Sky subs actually buy me.

There are a few goodthings on, but it depends on the type of stuff you like and how many channels you've got access to.

FX has some cracking drama/crime/political stuff on: Brotherhood, NCIS, The Wire for example.

Hallmark is great for a seriously goodlooking mini series like Rome.

SciFi can be a load of dross, but occasionally has a good new series on it like Heroes.

FiveUS & Living are good for repeats of CSI (which is cool as I missed most of series' 2-5!)

Prison Break on Five is a cracking series too.

Then you've got all the 'Dad Channels' - History, UKHistory, Discovery etc - which are great for anything that is related to war, weapons, battles... you get the idea. ;)

Having said all that I don't actually watch that much TV - probably averages out at about an hour a night.

The bike racing is about the only thing I make a point of watching really. Maybe the discovery channel sometimes too.

What's worrying is that the BBC have been accused for not showing programs that the majority of people want. To me this means, they're being told off for not playing to the lowest common denominator. Expect mainstream TV to get even worse.
