fork updates
ive got a 99 sv650 and would like to upgrade the front end,is there any advantage in fitting later model forks, have they improved them over the years?
cheers gruff |
Re: fork updates
Later models have preload. Thats it. For about the same money you can throw on a set of GSXR SRAD forks wheel and brakes. Do a search. Lots on this topic, there is.

Re: fork updates
maybe for the future,id like to get used to the bike and enjoy for a few track days, does fitting the gsxr front end make the bike more unstable & twitchy due to being shorter than the sv?
cheers |
Re: fork updates
Not at all it improves the handling no end gives you more set up and better braking! I've not found it to be twitchy or unstable and would highly recommend this mod.

Re: fork updates
You'll IMHO get no benefit from fitting later model forks, only thing you'll get is preload adjustment which on its own isnt going to do anything.
You can fit different springs and change the fork oil weight and you'll get a big difference, or as suggested swap the whole front end for a GSXR one. New Springs and oil is easy to do and reasonably cheap. GSXR front end is a little more work, and if you're clever you can sell the standard parts and cover your costs. The GSXR front end conversion has been discussed alot of times, have a search and you'll find loads of good info on it. |
