Nah, it ain't you... I've had a before, not many times but it does happen. Normally when the bike under alot of load, or if the oil is near a due change. I wouldn't worry to much unless its doing it everyday.

SV's not bad for it but not brilliant either... The K5 and K6 engines, and probably the K7 too, have a revised selector mechanism that you can retrofit if it really annoys you, I think the parts run to about £60... Or Factory Pro do a kit that's more or less the same for about twice that. I got mine for a tenner and it works brilliantly, but at 6 times thjat I'd be less impressed.

But better just to use a bit more foot I reckon ;) You can reduce it by keeping everything adjusted right too- one trick is, make sure the thing at the end of the selector rod that's furthest from the lever- you know, the thing, rose joint it might be called? Anyway, that. Make sure it's more or less vertical, if it's far off then it basically robs the lever of power and makes bad shifts much more likely.

I get it from time to time...nothing to worry about.

It's only scary when you're pinning it to overtake a lorry in 3rd gear, then shift to 4th around 9.000 rpm and find yourself bouncing of the limiter and bike slowing down! 8-[

Or you're on your way into a 160 degree hairpin and expecting engine braking when you downshift and nothing happens...

Yup, not a big fan of that either!

Interesting thread for me this. In my 10 days of ownership I've hit a LOT of false neutrals. I hoped it was just me being crap and not used to the bike. I will be checking the geometry of the selector arm etc and also it is due an oil change! Cheers folks.

Re: False Neutral?

Mine's been getting stuck in the actual neutral quite a bit lately (changing up and down) even jumping out of second once. Has caused me to have a few close calls and even more embarrasment (Went to drag away from the lights to find it had stuck in neutral ).

Guess I'll check all the above points!

Cheers
