I felt really bad today
...because I sacked somebody:( Having been sacked myself, I know how it hurts. Deeply. I really do take these things very seriously cos it's someone else's livelihood and it was a horrid interview - person was a locum - but after 2 days of getting frustrated and irate I had made up my mind that this person and I could not work together as she refused to speak to clients on the phone and generally refused to engage and for £40/hour - yes, £40 AN HOUR (hell, I don't pay myself that) - I expect rather more.
And then I went home and had a drink and thought why the f*ck did I let it go on for that long:D |

I'd do it for 30, and I could even throw an americanized accent in the mix! Ok, maybe not!

Re: I felt really bad today
You can't have one person ruining the business and the office atmosphere otherwise other good people will leave and will put clients off. You may feel bad but its your business and you can't let one person ruin it.
Feel confident in your decision, you had to do it and in a years time when your sitting on your bundle of cash you'll pat yourself on the back :D |
Re: I felt really bad today
One had to sack one person, I did not feel too guilty as they had brought it on themselves.
On the otherhand I have twice had to do redundancies. That has made me sick. to be told choose 3 and then choose 10. One guy who was at the top of my list was going through a bad patch in his marriage and was stupidly buying a new house to make his wife happy. I kept telling him, "Do you think it is a good time to be buying a house", "They will never make me redundant I am the only one who can do x,y,z". Daft sod did not take on board that the reason we were making 10 redundandant was the business was stopping all project engineering in the UK, and would not need x,y and z. Afterwards I talked the process through with those who remained. They tended to agree that I had been more than fair and that I had dropped more than a few hints that it might be worthwhile getting CVs upto date or booking training courses etc. |
