Steering lock problem

I put key in me naked K5's ignition, tried to turn key to unlock steering and nothing, wouldn't budge, in fact, key felt odd - stiffish going in as though I was trying to put wrong key in. I played around with it for a quarter of an hour or more, flicking parking light on ond off and over to unlock position but wouldn't go. sprayed WD40 down the slot and onto my key with no joy.

I pulled the key out and reinserted it a few times then, in an increasing panic, I turned parking light on as key was half out. I thought I've done it now. But no, key did go back in and I could turn parking light off but no joy with the steering lock. More WD, more wiggling. Then I thought, have a play with the key half out again - I turned lights on, inserted key fully and turned lights off a few times and in the end I managed to unlock the steering. phew!

Never had this problem before. Now, last week I thought it would be a good idea to spray a little 3 in one oil in the switch - did I do wrong? And dare I ever put me steering lock on again???

Re: Steering lock problem

I drop a bit of engine oil down the keyhole once in a while and have no problems. On worn locks waggling the key about can help,as can shoving on the bars to help disengage the steering lock.
