Old Petrol/Oil

In my old SV's is about 5 litres of unlead petrol plus a full engine full of oil. Now its been in the bike about 2 years, and looking in the tank I can't see any rust. But I am concerned that something may have happened that I just don't know about, is there anything that i can do the clean this out and ensure all is well. Or do you think the fuel will be fine, I know it smells strong enough.
As for the oil I'll be changing that, and then starting her up. After checking the plugs plus dropping a little oil in the top of the pistions. Now would you say running it for say half a hour and then changing the oil again would be a good idea, or is this just over kill.

I'd drain the old fuel off into a can. I'd then put a a bit of it back (say 1L) with each FRESH tankfull of fuel. Diluted like that it won't do it any harm and you don't need to find a way to get rid of it! :)

As for the oil I would change the oil on one of my other bikes, keep the stuff that came out and use that to flush the crap out of the one that's been standing. Then put fresh oil and filter in it.No point in using expensive new oil for a half hour flush.

Should be OK with oil as I still have some 10/40 left over from the GT750, though its fully synth I think.

I'm a little scared that I'll do all this work, go to start it and it will go bang.

It wont go bang. It will either sieze of not start ;)

Seriously, flush the oil, change the fuel, a new battery and id reckon she'd start like a dream.

I don't think the fuel would work, when I went to start my SV after leaving it for 4-5 months over winter, it wouldn't start (almost, but not quite). Probably had about 5 litres in it, topped up the tank, and it started. No idea how bad it would be after 2 years!

I thought someone said it turns to 'jelly' if you leave it to long.
