Is my garage trying to rip me off?!

ive almost got 16,000 miles on my SVS K5. I rang my garage to check when the next service is and he told me 16k. Thats only 4,000 miles after my last service! Is he trying to bring me in early?

Also, my chain and sprokets have had it. Whats the best set to get???

The service schedule on the SV's is indeed every 4000miles. Expect to pay in the region of £160-200. It's a major service that includes a valve check. You'll pay more if the valves are out & need adjusting (though I don't really see why, the valves are half out to be checked anyway - but yes it is a pain to adjust them).

Chain & sprockets, I forget where I got mine from last time (B&C Express?). £104 for front 15t, rear 46t and a standard size chain. Tight fit, but it does fir on a point S.

HTH.

For checking the valves the cams are not removed at all, only the covers and radiator, its a fiddly job though to take the cams out and shims, then measure and replace etc..

Not quite, adjustment adds much time to the job, checking is easy and not particularly time consuming.

im not the most mechanically minded person in the world. What are the chances of the valves need adjusting?

Slim to be honest.

Some do, some don't. The majority (from my understanding) don't need adjusting, but if you're unlucky & they do, but you don't even get it checked, well, you're asking for problems.

Sid, you know what I meant by "half out." Is this going to be another TPS mod/adjustment thread? :D (Mod btw ;) )

That's an adjustment you're referring to there.

****in' hell! I believe there is something we agree on! That can't be right - clearly I need to go lie down for a while and rethink this.
