Out of ideas on this......help please.

Hi all, new to the site :smt039

I have a 2002 curvy...it started to develope a a serious ignition problem, it wouldn't turn on but once it did it ran lumpy and kept cutting out...i found that the starter relay plug had corroded...This i fixed by replacing the connectors and so far so good with that.....:)

The bike has also developed a 5 thousand rpm and above missfire or electric problem...It seems as if the something seems to cut the ignition and it jolts and jerks around and feels terrible...there is a bit of a poping noise at the same time....

I have replaced the plugs, HT leads, plug caps, air filter and cleaned every electrical conection i could find...it seems to get a bit better and then goes worse again. The battery is good. I just can't figure it out......:smt013

Any takers please, would be great if you could help!!!!

I've gone through almost the whole loom and it appears to be ok...theres no splitting in the tape or sheath.....Spoke to an auto electrician who is a biker today and he reconed it was the cutout switch...checked that and it's fine...just don't know what further to route to take!!!

Could it be a problem with fueling?

had this with my last twin, was a combination of sticky choke and carbs needing balancing. good luck!

Sounds kind of familiar, I had a similar (tho not exactly the same) issue after I fitted my Tail Tidy.

Symptoms I had were that the bike was stuttery (like running with the choke out), and at 7k revs it would pop the exhaust and lose power.

The difference could be that the carbed curvy behaves differently than the injected pointy when the fueling gets messed up,

Basically while fastening the undertray back to the battery box, I managed to disconnect the CKP connector. This has a white and a green wire in from the front of the bike, and a black and a black + white wire going to the rear of the bike.

This is the connector for the CranK Position sensor.

Other thing that occurs - could you have a stuck/sticky choke?

He only knows that because I went trawling through the books to figure out what it was :-$ hehe.

Anyhow, topic. Sounds definately like a fuel issue, and I'm sticking with the crowd & putting money on a stuck/sticking choke.

Or try checking the coils? Or the Ignition advance unit? New here.... not even got my SV yet! So I guess that only makes me a general bike person - definitley not a specific SV expert. Oh - and this is my first post.

Eagle747, welcome to the madhouse.

Just so you're aware, you have an obligation to post a newbie thread in Idle Banter. It gives all the little ones a sense of purpose ;)

Oh - OK! Should get my '01 SV on Saturday. It'll need a bit of TLC - but I bet I get some support from you guys on that!
