Stebel Magum Fitting on a Pointy.
Has anyone on here actually succeeding in fitting a Stebel Magnum to a Pointy SV650?
I have search the forum and though two schools of thought. Those who say Yeah, and those who say no???? The problem being it looks like very few people have actually tried. If so has anyone got any tips pointers etc?? i.e Relay or not, do the wires need cutting and extending, and most importantly where to mount the damn thing.. |
Re: Stebel Magum Fitting on a Pointy.
In order:
Yes. Course it can be done. Yes if needed. If you want specifics, let me know. But basically, remove the stock horn, cut the connector off, extend the wires, add a relay & wires, fit it to the bike. See here for a pic of mine (look behind the front indicator). I'm thinking of putting another one on the other side actually. |
Re: Stebel Magum Fitting on a Pointy.
Is the relay essential because it clearly states on the product it is not needed.
Only the larger model Nautilis (can't remember exact name) needs the relay because of the extra power drain. Or am I wrong? |
Re: Stebel Magum Fitting on a Pointy.
It might not be neccessary on a car, but is on the bike. Standard horn is pretty lame, reason is not very powerful.
Power = volts x current - as voltage is always 12V then it stands to reason a more powerful horn will draw more current. SV wiring is designed to handle current draw of standard horn, a greater current draw will damage the circuit. The most vunerable part is the handle bar switch. Use a relay (pennies) to protect orignal wiring. wire the powerful horn(s) to the battery via the relay. Get the twin pack if you want really loud :smt074 IMO twin tomes always sound better. |

Can the relay just be wiring in line to the positive when I cut the old wires and rejoin the new.?
Also which relay do I need? |

Re: Stebel Magum Fitting on a Pointy.
Your local maplin will sort you out. Bosch style SPDT relay, either 30A or 40A (I always use 40A) for 12v circuits. 40A is N02AW, 30A is N00AW (stock codes).
The wires from your old horn will need blue female (insulated) spade connectors on. These go on pins 85 & 86 (doesn't matter which). Then run a wire from the battery +ve to 87. Then run a wire from 87a to ground (battery -ve or frame). I'm with Luckypants, whilst a relay might not be essential, I don't want to risk it on my bike. EDIT: Hovis, the whole point of putting another one on the other side is to have two. I can sell you my stock meeper if you like ;) BTW, Wales rideout thread, I asked if you were coming to pickup those hotgrips. |

Note I fitted twin Fiamm horns, that are physically smaller (and not as loud / heavy) as the Stebel Magnum(s). Much louder than stock, wakes up drivers. Funnily enough, I use them more on bikes than cars..... HTH |
